DOING BUSINESS IN THE PERMIAN BASIN .....
The Economic Development Department of the Permian Basin Regional Planning Commission (PBRPC) serves the 17 counties of the Permian Basin as a resource for county and city officials to use for economic and business development activities that help to create a region of economic growth and prosperity.
In January 2008, the PBRPC received a U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration grant to plan for regional services for economic development, and to develop a Comprehensive Development Strategy for the 17-county region. The Commission's board of directors representing each of the counties realized the need to address issues that include emerging industries, workforce and the infrastructure which impact the diversification and economic security of the region. A Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) committee was formed, and a regional planning forum was conducted to map and analyze the region's economic resources. As a result, goals and objectives addressing the areas of workforce and education development, transportation and infrastructure, housing, industry diversification, regional marketing and outreach are addressed in the CEDS. You can view the Permian Basin's CEDS report here.
The Permian Basin Regional Planning Commission has applied to the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration for Economic Development District Designation for the benefit of the region's ability to continue progress toward meeting the goals and objectives contained in the CEDS.
